An indispensable and extremely important book. Written by the ninth-century Ḥanafī scholar Luṭf Allāh al-Nasafī al-Kaydānī, An Introduction to Prayer, or the Muqaddimat al-Ṣalāh, is a well-known and oft-studied primer in the rules of prayer according to the Ḥanafī school of law. Its brevity and organised structure gives the student an excellent overview of some of the most important rulings regarding the prayer. The translator, in addition to the original Arabic text, has provided explanatory footnotes for the majority of the text taken from either other commentaries of the Muqaddima or several other reliable works in the school as a way of aiding the reader in understanding and comprehending the rulings in an accurate manner. He has also included appendices that comprise numerous supplications made during the prayer in Arabic complete with English transliteration and translation, and an overview of some of the main rulings mentioned in the text.
